Jannat (Hindi: जन्नत, Urdu, translation: Heaven) is a 2008 Bollywood film directed by Kunal Deshmukh and starring Emraan Hashmi, Sonal Chauhan, Sameer Kochhar and Javed Shaikh. The film was produced by Vishesh Films while the soundtrack was composed by Pritam.

The story revolves around a man who is caught in a quagmire of crime and consumerism as he struggles to find heaven on earth.
Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) is a reckless young man with an obsession for making quick buck. A chance meeting with a girl in a mall, Zoya (Sonal Chauhan) gives him the reasons he was looking for to move out of his ordinary life and become rich for this girl. He steps up from playing small-time card games to becoming a bookie.
Stuck in a triangle of sorts between the woman he loves and his addiction to make a quick buck, Arjun moves on from being a bookie to a runner for the mafia. He steps into the world of Cricket match fixing, ensuring a match looks interesting, but the end result is to their advantage.
Arjun basically switches on the limelight to the bigger, faster, better and more, until his dizzying rise attracts the attention of the police. Arjun has now to choose between the love of his life, and this new found success and power.
As Arjun struggles to choose between the two, the Don (Javed Sheikh) offers the forbidden apple of limitless wealth in exchange for his soul, drawing him into his core entourage of money spinners. Though he tries his best not to accept, he is, in the end, drawn into the plot where he soon gets trapped as the man accused of killing a coach.
With the police after him, Arjun manages to get into his best friend's car. Both of them can now make off, but Arjun is stopped by Zoya who asks him to surrender. Convinced that he has not committed the crime, Zoya assures him they can, and will, fight the law.
When the police arrive, Arjun raises his arms in a gesture of surrender. Zoya pleads with the inspector, who is a fair and just man, not to kill Arjun as he is ready to give himself up and, consequently, the inspector orders his men not to fire until told to, though none of them lower their weapons.
Arjun is asked to drop his gun, which is in the pocket of his jeans. Zoya's ring, too, is in Arjun's pocket and, when the gun is taken out and dropped, the ring is dropped along with it. Arjun, in a state of shock and blur, bends down to pick the ring, but the police mistakenly think he is reaching for the gun. They open fire, and Arjun is brutally killed. This was his sacrifice for love and the price he pays for his greed.
The film ends showing Zoya paying her shopping bill in a mall along with her 5 or 6 year old son. At the payment counter she reduces items from her shopping list as she cannot afford to pay for all the items. Just then her son willingly gives away an item(most probably a toy) from the shopping list,telling his mother that this can be bought later. She looks at him and smiles gladly, sensing that her son understands. She can see that her son resembles Arjun.
The soundtrack of the film is composed by Pritam while the lyrics are penned by Sayeed Quadri, Kamran Ahmed and Neelesh Misra. Kamran Ahmed also sung and composed the smash hit Judai. The music received generally positive reviews and the songs Judai, Zara Sa, Haan Tu Hai and Jannat Jahan became chartbusters. KK was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his song Zara Sa while Kamran Ahmed won the MTV Breakthrough Artist Award for his song Judai.[1]

The film collected Rs.32,47,00,000 in 5 weeks, a considerable amount for its small budget. With its music already at top, the film was received well by the young audience. According to trade experts the film was declared a super hit. The film got some good reviews too. Noyon Jyoti Parasara of AOL India rated it 2.5 out of 5 and said, "When we have something in a movie that appeals to everyone, that's when we call it a masala entertainer – probably. Keeping this in mind, Jannat, with a decent measure of romance, thrill, comedy, tragedy and of course cricket is definitely a masala flick."[2] It was elevated to super hit status at the box office.
The sequel to Jannat has already started filming, and is currently titled Jannat 2. It is to be directed by Kunal Deshmukh, and produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt again. Jannat 2 will star Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda and Esha Gupta in lead roles. The film is scheduled for release on 27 April, 2012.
